The gaze on spoken language within health care professions

In public debates and everyday talk about “integration”, accent is often a point of reference for “wanting to be part of Swedish society”. This project concerns processes involved in talk about accents and the production of difference between “first” and “second language” speakers, and how this intersects with the racialization of bodies. In particular, the project aims at examining the effects of the discourse of first and second language within different health care professions. How is difference produced and under surveillance through the gaze on spoken language within health care professions?
