Women in the Anthropocene

We are in the midst of the urban revolution, when more than half of humanity lives in cities at a time that scientists also regard as the Anthropocene, when human settlements have such a profound impact on the planet that it can be compared to a geological epoch. However, the responsibility of the Anthropocene differs between settlements and communities. With material feminism, I want to highlight the importance of women’s work for the transition that is required under the Anthropocene. At the moment I’m 1) Writing new journal articles on women’s intra-action performances in struggles combining ‘social mixing’ against segregation with ‘the right to the city’ in housing, cultural infrastructure, and dealing production and consumption of hydropower from public utilities, 2) Completing a popular-science documentary summarising the significance of women in the urban revolution and in the Anthropocene, and 3) Developing my participatory-observation scientific video archive on www.youtube.com/femsusdev and www.vimeo.com/femsusdev that has been visited by over 185.000 persons from 174 countries.
