Children as political subjects

I am doing research on children’s right to participation and this year, 2015, I am following the Gothenburg Youth Council. The Youth Council consists of 101 members between 12 to 17 years of age and they come from every district in Gothenburg. The Youth Council is working with questions that the members themselves find important and they are having a dialogue with the adult politicians. I am interested in questions about how children’s possibilities to act as political subjects can be understood in relation to norms about age and categorizations based on age: children and adults. How do children and adults cooperate in projects that aim at children’s right to participation, and what consequences can the cooperation have for the participants’ understandings of childhood and adulthood?
