Culture Studies

In Cultural Studies, focus is directed towards the relationship between humans, culture and society. Attention is paid to how social institutions, (cultural-)political decisions and economical interests govern people's access to cultural areas and public spaces. Within Cultural Studies we further investigate how people relate to popular cultural expressions and phenomena they are surrounded by. Likewise we focus on how people's cultural practices are organized and how resistance to various power structures are formed and articulated. Drawing theoretically on the British Cultural Studies-tradition it can be described as a multi-methodological discipline that analyses contemporary cultural phenomena and ideologies with theories from both the social sciences and the humanities.

Please note that courses in Cultural Studies are only taught in Swedish. For more information about specific courses, visit the Swedish version of this page.
