About Eva Zetterman

Associate professor in Art History and Visual Studies

Research
I recieved my Ph.D. degree in 2003 at the University of Gothenburg in Art History and Visual Studies on the dissertation Frida Kahlos bildspråk – ansikte, kropp & landskap: Representation av nationalitet (Frida Kahlo’s Imagery – Face, Body & Landscape: Representation of Nationality). The dissertation (in Swedish) has later been published in two new editions, in 2007 and 2011. After the dissertation I have conducted research on critical museum pedagogy, street art, the art scene in Los Angeles, women artists and visual culture among Chicanas/os. (See below for publications). Present research areas are performance art and visual historiography.

Teaching
Since 2015, I teach in Art History and Visual Studies, in Gender Studies, and in programmes in Education and Didactics, the barchelor programme Culture, the master programme Culture and Democracy, and the master programme Gendering Practises. Previously, I have worked with education and research at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Gothenburg, at Halmstad University College, Växjö University and Karlstad University. At Karlstad University, I was also director of Art History and Visual Culture, director of Cultural Studies, programme coordinator for the Cultural Studies Programme (180 hp) and project leader for the development of programs and courses in visual culture, cultural politics and the contemporary cultural sector. I was also a member of the Local Advisory Board for the GEXcel International Collegium for Advanced Transdisciplinary Gender Studies.

Interaction
I have been a member of an expert group in the Region Västra Götaland for a project on visual art in public spaces, I have worked with Kultur i Väst and KRO/KIF i Väst with an educational project on gender awareness in art institutions, I have been part of a working group at the administration of culture and leisure in the municipality of Karlstad on art decoration of Tingvallahallarna i Karlstad, and I have participated in a national research project for the Swedish Arts Council on gender representations in art museums. Previous activities in collaborative teams include working as museum educator at Gothenburg art museum and Hasselblad Center, as museum curator at Borås art museum, and as editor of Kvinnovetenskaplig tidskrift (Journal of Women Studies), the present Tidskrift för genusvetenskap (Journal for Gender Studies). I have participated in several symposiums and held a large number of public lectures for cultural institutions, cultural organisations and cultural associations, and I am a member of several interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary networks. Since 2014, I am a board member of the Swedish Association of American Studies (SAAS). On behalf of the Danish Accreditation Institution (AI) at the Danish Ministry of Education and Research, I will participate as a specialist in the panel for the accreditation process in 2018 of bachelor- and master programs in Performance Design at Roskilde University (RUC).
