About Eva Zetterman

Associate professor and Senior Lecturer in Art History and Visual Studies

Research
I received my Ph.D. at the University of Gothenburg in 2003 in Art History and Visual Studies on the dissertation Frida Kahlos bildspråk – ansikte, kropp & landskap: Representation av nationell identitet (Frida Kahlo’s Imagery – Face, Body & Landscape: Representation of National Identity). The dissertation (in Swedish) has since been published in three additional editions, in 2005, 2007 and 2011 (including one speech book). After the dissertation I have conducted research on museums, street art, the art scene in Los Angeles, women artists and Chicana/o Studies. (See below for publications). Present research areas are performance art and critical historiography.

Teaching
Since 2015, I am affiliated to the University of Gothenburg where I teach in courses in Gender Studies, the bachelor program Culture, the master programs Culture and Democracy and Gendering Practices, Ph.D. courses at the Department of Cultural Sciences, and in courses at the Department of Education, Communication and Learning. Previous teaching experiences include teaching in courses at the University of Gothenburg in Art History and Visual Studies, Latin American Studies and Applied Art, at Halmstad University College in Art History, at Växjö University in Art History and Visual Studies, and at Karlstad University in Art History and Visual Culture and in Cultural Studies. At Karlstad University, where I developed several new courses in Art History and Visual Culture and in Cultural Studies, I was director of Art History and Visual Culture and of Cultural Studies, program coordinator for the Cultural Studies Program (180 hp), project leader for the development of the Cultural Studies Program, and member of the Research Group for Culture Studies (KuFo) and of the Local Advisory Board for the GEXcel International Collegium for Advanced Transdisciplinary Gender Studies.

Interactions
Since 2014, I am a board member of the Swedish Association for American Studies (SAAS). On behalf of the Danish Accreditation Institute (AI) at the Danish Ministry of Education and Research in Copenhagen, I participated as an expert in the accreditation process in 2018 of bachelor- and master programs in Performance Design at Roskilde University (RUC). This work continues in 2020 by following up the accreditation process for bachelor- and master programs in Performance Design at Roskilde University. Previous collaborative activities include participation in an expert group in the Region Västra Götaland for visual art in public spaces, participation in a working group at Kultur i Väst in the municipality of Gothenburg in collaboration with KRO/KIF i Väst and Skövde Art Museum for gender awareness by art professionals at art museums and exhibition spaces, participation in an expert group at the administration of culture and leisure in the municipality of Karlstad for art decoration of Tingvallahallarna, working as a tour guide for customers of the fashion company Gudrun Sjödén Design AB on journeys in Mexico on the theme 'In the footsteps of Frida Kahlo' organized by Äventyrsresor (Adventure Travel), participation in a national research project for the Swedish Arts Council on gender representations in Swedish art museums, and working as an editor of the peer-review journal Kvinnovetenskaplig tidskrift (Journal of Women Studies), presently Tidskrift för genusvetenskap (Journal for Gender Studies). I have participated in several symposiums and panels and held a large number of public lectures in participation with universities, cultural institutions, cultural organisations and cultural associations, and I am a member of several interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary associations and networks.
