About Eva Zetterman

Associate professor and Senior Lecturer in Art History and Visual Studies

Research
I received my Ph.D. in 2003 at the University of Gothenburg in Art History and Visual Studies on the dissertation Frida Kahlos bildspråk – ansikte, kropp & landskap: Representation av nationalitet (Frida Kahlo’s Imagery – Face, Body & Landscape: Representation of Nationality). The dissertation (written in Swedish) has since been published in two new editions, in 2007 and 2011. After the dissertation I have published research on museology, street art, the art scene in Los Angeles, women artists and visual culture among Chicanas/os. (See below for publications). Present research areas are performance art and visual historiography.

Teaching
Since 2015, I am affiliated to the University of Gothenburg as a researcher and lecturer in Art History and Visual Studies, Gender Studies, programmes in Education and Didactics, the barchelor programme Culture, the master programme Culture and Democracy, the master programme Gendering Practises, and on courses for Ph.D-students. Previously, I have worked with education and research at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Gothenburg, Halmstad University College, Växjö University and Karlstad University. At Karlstad University, I was director of Art History and Visual Culture, director of Cultural Studies, programme coordinator for the Cultural Studies Programme (180 hp), project leader for the development of programs and courses in visual culture, cultural politics and the contemporary cultural sector, as well as member of the Research Group for Culture Studies (KuFo) and of the Local Advisory Board for the GEXcel International Collegium for Advanced Transdisciplinary Gender Studies.

Interactions
Collaborative activities include being member of an expert group in the Region Västra Götaland for a project on visual art in public spaces, working with Kultur i Väst, KRO/KIF i Väst and Skövde Art Museum with an educational project on gender awareness among staff in art institutions, working in an expert group at the administration of culture and leisure in the municipality of Karlstad for art decorations of Tingvallahallarna, beeing a tour guide on journeys in Mexico on the theme 'In the footsteps of Frida Kahlo' organized by the travel company Äventyrsresor (Adventure Travel) for customers of the fashion company Gudrun Sjödén Design AB, participating in a national research project for the Swedish Arts Council on gender representations in Swedish art museums, and working as an editor of the peer-review journal Kvinnovetenskaplig tidskrift (Journal of Women Studies), presently Tidskrift för genusvetenskap (Journal for Gender Studies). I have also participated in several symposiums and held a large number of public lectures for cultural institutions, cultural organisations and cultural associations, and I am a member of several interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary associations and networks. Since 2014, I am a board member of the Swedish Association of American Studies (SAAS). On behalf of the Danish Accreditation Institution (AI) at the Danish Ministry of Education and Research in Copenhagen, I participate in 2018 as a specialist in the accreditation process of bachelor- and master programs in Performance Design at Roskilde University (RUC).
